PostSubject: Can I Get a Hell Yeah For Petra-TSD [Another Rivetra AU]   Mon Sep 09, 2013 11:12 pm

Panic was just now setting in; half of them were now dead and Eren had gone ahead of their small formation to escape the Female Titan. It was priority to keep him safe, even if it meant they risk their own lives to distract the obviously sentient Titan. Petra risked a look back, the Titan almost upon her. This was it... wasn't it? With Erd and Gunther already dead, it was down to her and Auruo. There was no possible way they'd be able to take down this Titan now. It might have been a little late to think about it now, but she was... more than grateful for the time she had spent being in Squad Levi. From the day she was first picked to join his elite squad to this moment, despite the fear and panic she felt, there was no possible way she could regret it.

"Petra! Snap out of it!" The woman's head turned, looking up to the other surviving member of Squad Levi. He was higher up than she was, almost level with the Female Titan's head. "We're going to come out of this alive! You hear me?!" Auruo called to the other woman as he pulled the triggers on his gear again, more wire shooting out to keep him going. "We need to protect Eren at all costs and you can't be spacing out like that if that's our goal!" Slowly, Petra nodded and she turned her head again, looking to the Female Titan. Gasping as the Titan suddenly jumped up, Petra did the first thing her instincts told her to. She quickly flipped a switch on her sword's handles, the wire coming loose to send her tumbling to the ground just as she heard a slight crack from the force of the Female Titan kicking the tree. Another audible crack was heard and her eyes widened in pain as she grit her teeth, slowly coming to a stop on the ground. She looked up, ignoring the new pain in her left arm. Suddenly, Petra sat up, looking in the direction the Female Titan was headed. Gripping her arm, she could only watch as the Titan lashed out, crushing Auruo in one blow.

The soldier could see the blood spatter from her position, but she couldn't bring herself to move. Shaking her head, she knelt back down, tears beginning to sting in her eyes. "A-Auruo..." She muttered, bringing her uninjured arm to hold her stomach. She felt sick. Petra had seen teammates get slaughtered in the past, but to see those she considered closest to her wiped out and her the only survivor... she had never felt so sick before. It felt like hours before she moved again, but in reality it had only been a few minutes. She shifted to stand up, adjusting to hold her arm close to her body. She felt something warm trickling down her head, but she ingored it, more concerned about the searing pain in her arm. There was no way she didn't break it, especially after taking a fall like she did. Petra looked around the forest, slowly walking forward. She was sure her gear was broken from her fall and tumble, so that way of travel was out of the question. The woman could only hope her horse... or any horse for that matter was still around and uninjured after the whole ordeal in the forest. Walking forward and deeper into the forest, she found a little nook to sit in. Still holding her arm to her body, she gently moved it away to examine. The best she could do at the moment was to make a sling out of whatever she had. Carefully, she removed her Survey Corps cloak, seeing that it was already ripped in some places to make making a sling a lot easier. Pulling at a rip carefully, she was able to take a strip long and wide enough to make a sling. Putting the traveler's cloak back on, she tied a knot from both ends and slung it around her neck, carefully putting her arm through.

Petra huffed as she leaned back against the tree, closing her eyes. She could afford a nap at the moment... couldn't she? If a Titan came along and noticed her, she didn't see herself finding the energy to fight back for her own survival. Bringing her legs closer to her body, she leaned forward to rest her head on her knees, wrapping her uninjured arm around her legs, wincing slightly as her injured arm shifted.

Again, she didn't know how long she sat there, not focused on anything in particular. Sounds were muted to her; the only thing she really heard was her own breathing. In a strange way, it relaxed her, reminding her that she was still alive... for the most part. Sighing again as she lifted her head up, she caught some movement in the dark forest. It was barely noticeable, a rustle of a bush before it ceased almost immediately. Her trained eyes watched for anymore movement, ears listening for any sounds. She heard a small whinny and she stood abruptly, walking forward in the direction it came from. Moving to walk behind a tree, relief flooded her instantly at the sight of a horse... her horse. She sighed, walking forward to give the animal a pat on the side of its neck. "I'm sure we can find our way back..." She said, gripping the reins on the horse for support as she put her foot into one of the stirrups. With whatever energy she could muster up, she pulled herself up into the saddle of the animal, adjusting to get comfortable before turning the animal to where the exit of the forest was. Pulling her hood up, she dug her heels into the side of the animal to get it started on a gallop.

Petra squinted as she came out of the Forest of Giant Trees, the familiar open field opening up. Looking forward, she could just barely see the Walls ahead of her. She remembered a full retreat being ordered, but she hoped they hadn't fully retreated back into the walls. If she hurried, she still had time. Gripping the reins of her horse even tighter, she kicked its sides again, the animal heading off at a slightly faster gallop to make it to the walls. A small sense of hope filled her, despite the odds she was against that day. She would be going home, sooner rather than later.

Pulling back on her horse's reins as she came over a hill, the horse almost reared up as she looked down at the sight below her. It seemed the Survey Corps had stopped a little way's away outside of the walls for a checkpoint, to check and see if they had everything. The familiar feeling of relief filled her again as she clicked her tongue and nudged the horse's side, the animal moving at a moderate pace as she made her way down to the current checkpoint. Would anyone else still be alive that she was familiar with? Levi had to be alive... there was no way he would allow a Titan to claim his life. Hitting the horse's side again, it went into another gallop with a few seconds of protest. "Levi!" She attempted to call out, although her voice cracked halfway through her captain's name. Clearing her throat, she tried again. "Levi!" She called out again, this time more successful. As she came closer, she noticed that she had managed to turn a few heads from the Survey Corps soldiers, some of them jumping up in hopes that it was one of their own comrades. The sight almost made her wince, for they wouldn't be seeing any of their comrades. She slowed her horse some, pulling back on the reins to squint from the sunlight.

A piece of cloth still fluttered in the breeze on the wagon. Snagging and holding fast to a jutted piece of wood no doubt when the body bags were released in the empty field to give the recon corps a faster advantage. His eyes never left the thin piece of cloth, it was the single only reminder to what the wagon had carried. Who, the wagon had carried. Movement close to him caused Levi to look up from his momentary trance as a horse came to a halt just behind him. The man didn't get off the horse nor did he look at Levi, he only settled the horse, staring off to the different groups of soldiers at the check point. "What, Irvin?" Levi was the first to speak, gaining a sideways glance from the Survey corps commander. "We're going to make a final run for the wall.." He paused, the man's eyes looking towards the corporal then to the wagon. Levi's facial expression remained the same as he turned, gripping the reins of the large horse next to him "is that all?" he asked plainly, it was his turn to not look at the mounted man who only stared for a moment before nodding. Levi knew what he wanted to ask, what he was waiting for but the commander should know better. Which he did, without another word Irvin trotted off, Levi could here him start another conversation with another group of soldiers before turning his attention back to his horse, he too bringing himself into the saddle. Giving the animal's reins a tug he turned, heading a slow pace towards the front of the checkpoint, passing Irvin as he planned to wait for the move to begin. They still had another whole empty field ahead of them before reaching the gate, the vastness of the fields only reminded him of the bodies as they bounced off the back of the wagon. One by one he watched as his squad hit the grass, only to be left once again. He didn't see them as his squad anymore, their bodies were as empty as the field they were left in but that fact didn't stop the image as each rolled off the cart. Three, three bodies that just earlier today were living and breathing and under his command now probably trampled under the footfall of some Titan. Levi gripped the reins of his horse tighter, noticeable only to him as he passed a group of soldiers that gave a collective salute.

It was another thought that plagued him, there were only three. There were four people in his squad not including himself. Gunther, who's neck was snapped, Levi had evaluated how it had happened in his head several times. Erd which half of his body was less then salvageable. Auruo whom it took even Levi a moment to asses and identify who it was. couldn't help but think of what each did wrong, was it a simple mistake he had called them out on during training? he didn't like to simply think of a Titan having the upper hand of his squad. What little comfort he could find was found in thinking they were the cause of their own deaths by their own mistakes in battle rather then the skill of a titanic bitch. There was a body they didn't find. One Levi had kept an eye out for specifically, Petra. Her face came instantly into his mind, her kind eyes and smile, often full of determination and hardship. Her face was the only one in his memory not distorted by death, for her body was never recovered.

His jaw tightened as he stopped his horse, he played out her death several times in his head, just as he had the rest of his squad. He imagined her tossed, far from the others in a violent swing from the female Titan, another theory was she was swallowed completely in convenience by the sentient Titan. His eyes hardened suddenly, he needed these morbid scenarios for some form of closure, having it a mystery wouldn't do for him.

He adjusted himself in the saddle, looking down to assess his ankle which he had insisted be looked at after they got to the walls, there were more important injuries to be dealt with. The idea lead him to a strange thought, for him at least. He had never been the sentimental type, he couldn't afford to be, but he wondered if she thought of him in their final moments. If Petra's final thoughts were why he wasn't there for his own squad, did she die thinking ill of him?

Levi snapped his head up, returning his gaze back to the field ahead, he assumed it would be any moment for Irvin to give the signals to the spread out groups so he simply waited. He took to closing his eyes, allowing himself to be with his own thoughts between the commotion of the checkpoint, to be with the face that in his mind at least, death hadn't claimed.

Through the loud conversations, wagon movement and horses being settled he swore he heard his name, instantly he assumed it was his imagination, a cruel trick that had been going on periodically throughout the hours. He had been seeing phantoms of each o them for what was left of the day. What made hers any different. The real cruelty was how each were more vivid then the next. But there it was again, his name and her voice. Levi already decided to ignore the call when he heard a soldier jump up, he turned in time to see them point off to an on coming figure from the flank of the checkpoint. "A survivor! it's one of ours!" This caused several other soldiers to eagerly hop up and look, all hoping it to be their MiA friend or comrade. Upon his name being called again Levi jerked the reins of his horse back to turn the animal, which protested as he spurred it with his good leg sending the horse back into the lines towards the figure whom he now had no doubt who it was nor was it a cruel mind game.

Soldiers scrambled out of the way of the corporals fast moving advance to the back of the line to meet his last remaining squad member half way, slowing when he was closer to ride up next to the woman's horse. "..Petra" he muttered, steadying his horse to get a better look. She looked disheveled and wild eye'd which was to be expected. Reaching forward he placed a hand on her shoulder, his stare just as intense as it always had been as he searched her eyes for something and saying everything he couldn't verbally tell her now. His hand being on her shoulder was just as much his own comfort as it was for hers as he slowly removed it his attention now falling on her arm. "You need medical attention" he grunted, re-positioning his horse to her left and facing forward. "Can you control that horse until we get to the walls?" He asked, his stare lingering on her again before watching ahead.

Petra risked a look at the other soldiers that watched her ride up on her horse, a majority of them turning away when they came to the realization that she wasn't one of their own friends or comrades, defeated expressions replacing their momentary hopeful ones. She let out a small sigh, looking up when she saw soldiers parting a way for someone riding on their horse and advancing to her position fast, her eyes flooding with relief when she realized it was Levi and it wasn't just her imagination. She pulled back on her reins to bring the horse to a full stop, the animal whinnying in protest as Levi rode up next to her, the woman just barely catching her name when it was said. She reached up to pull her hood down, somehow managing a weak smile as she felt his hand on her shoulder. Hesitantly, she put her hand over top of his, tears again stinging in her eyes as she looked back at him, conveying whatever couldn't be said at the moment in one look. "I... I made it, Levi." Her voice was barely above a whisper and it cracked at the end, her small smile falling.

She took her hand off of his as he removed his own, glancing at her arm when he took note that it was, in fact, injured. Wiping her eyes quickly, she shook her head in response to the need for medical attention. "I can wait until we get back into the walls... but I can control the horse, so long as there's no more surprises..." Petra continued to look at Levi, but her gaze shifted back to the back of her horse's neck after only a few more seconds. She was almost positive that at some point, someone was going to want to know what exactly happened in the Forest of Giant Trees when her and the rest of Levi's squad were trying to take down the Female Titan. The real question, though, was whether or not she'd be able to talk about it to anyone from this day forth. Only her training to control her emotions was what was keeping her from breaking down... or the fact the entire Survey Corps would be a witness to it.

Suddenly her head snapped up, looking over at her captain. She remembered the whole point of the failed expedition and who was supposed to make it a reality. "Eren. Please tell me he's alive." She said suddenly, gripping the reins of her horse tighter. Petra just needed to know that her squadmates deaths weren't in complete vain, and she didn't have to voice that for Levi to understand.

Straightening his horse to move in time with hers, Levi kept his gaze forward a part of him was still expecting her to be an illusion, something his mind made up for his sense of closure but there she was. The last of squad Levi. The grip on his reins tightened nonetheless, even if the slight show of emotion Levi cursed the reaction anyways. He gave a sideways glance, his eyes focusing on her arm again before he adjusted in his saddle. A distant popping sound near the front of the group was Irvin's signal to move the final stretch towards the walls, the majority of the survey corps thundered forward by the command. Levi sighed, tugging the restraints on the animal "We're not behind the walls yet. I'm going to ask you to stay alert until we are. That's an order." He flashed her a look before he spurred his horse. It wasn't an order, it was more of a plea.

After they got to a steady pace he evaluated her question, slowly looking ahead between one moving wagon to the next as each was guarded by a group of two or three soldiers, each now filled with injured. "He's in the center, minor head injuries but hes alive" Levi's jaw tightened as he seen the desperation on her face to learn the information of the boy's status. "You should see him at some point." That was his squads one duty, they were trained and hand picked by himself and chosen to guard the young soldier because of that. Because of him and yet the only one left standing was Petra.

Levi was sure to keep his horse at a steady pace with hers as they neared the walls now, no Titans had been sighted which was for the best, he wasn't sure of the corps could take another attack like the one where they disposed of the bodies. He wanted to ask her, he wanted to know exactly what had happened when they were attacked by the Female Titan. How Gunther, Erd and Auruo had lost their lives, what strategy they used and why they failed. But it all had to wait, he could see it in her eyes the brief moment he had with her she wasn't ready, he wondered if she would ever be ready but that wasn't something he could decide when. As her captain he would stand by that, but not everyone would have the same view. "Irvin is going to want a report." he gave her a sideways glance "there's going to be a shitstorm on the opposite side of those walls about the mission." he added, looking back ahead at the mass of soldiers ahead of them. "But..I'm with you." he finished, his eyes staring hard at the distant gates that were now coming up fast. He wasn't there for his squad then, but he can be there for them..her now.

Petra winced slightly at the familiar sound of a smoke signal going off, slight worry taking over her thoughts before she realized it was just a signal for the formation to move forward again and into the walls, brought by Irvin. She watched the Survey Corps move forward, glancing at Levi as he gave her a relatively simple order to follow: to remain alert. Giving him a curt nod, she looked forward again and gripped her horse's reins tighter to compensate for being unable to use her left arm. Sure, she could handle that... she was already apprehensive enough, anxious of another surprise attack from the Female Titan. "Understood." She said with an even voice, nudging the side of the horse to match the pace of Levi's, eyes set on the gate.

The soldier followed her captain's gaze when he looked out into the rest of the formation, at several wagons that were positioned towards the center. Listening to what he had to say about Eren still being alive, she could feel a small flicker of hope, although it was distinguished almost as quickly as it had appeared. Petra took to looking at the back of her horse's neck again, sucking in a deep breath and then exhaling, glancing over at Levi. "...That's a relief." She muttered, looking forward. A part of her told her that even though Eren was found to be alive, their squad was still killed in vain. They didn't make it back to Wall Maria, they didn't make it back to the Shiganshina District to retake the wall, didn't make it to Eren's basement. They didn't take any steps forward to figure out the origins of the Titans, or any steps forward for humanity. If anything, they took several steps back.

Petra took in another deep breath, keeping her gaze forward as they got closer to the wall. This was always her most hated part about returning from an expedition, but the fact that this one barely lasted 24 hours didn't make it any better. More angered civilians, despite the fact the Corps risked their lives to try and rid the world of the Titans. She glanced over at Levi when he mentioned that Irvin would definitely want a report about what had happened in the forest, what only she could account for. Whether she would have to talk to him face-to-face about it or have it be a written report, she didn't know. Since she was the sole survivor of a presumably dead squad, she made the early assumption it would be a talk face-to-face.

Levi's final words caused the woman to look at him, Petra swallowing the lump in her throat as she gave a small nod in response to her words. She cursed her almost lack of ability to control her emotions, not necessarily wanting Levi to worry more than he probably already did. Looking forward once again as they came up closer to the walls, she adjusted her position on the horse, sitting a little straighter. "I know you are." She confirmed, her voice again cracking at the end of her sentence. Dammit, she just wanted today to be over.

Levi pulled slightly on his reins as the line of soldiers in front of them started to slow, the head of the line was started to funnel into the now opening gate. With a tight jaw he looked over to her again with a nod. It was obvious she was effected by it, who wouldn't be, he couldn't judge her for that. Petra was trying to save face and hold it all in, to Levi it was obvious he had seen it countless times before, he only hoped she would be able to hold it together at least until they were past the opening of the gate. Levi looked straight on as they grew closer to the inside the walls casting a shadow over the survey corps in its whole  squeezed in the walls. One would think being back in the walls were comforting, to Levi it was only a reminder of the failure.

The natural move of the horses walk was the only thing that moved him. He focused forward as he always done, it was easiest that way he found. The constant nagging of the public was something he was used to, or something he should be used to at least but today the voice of the public just seemed to be particularly loud. The constant questions "They weren't even gone a full day!" or "Another failure?!" but his personal favorite "How many more have to die!" it was a good question. One even he thought of on more then one occasion, he wasn't allowed to voice it, he was a solider and that was the only mindset he was meant to have. Follow orders. He had seen too many people die to sit and question every single one and why it happened. It just did. "Petra" he said suddenly, keeping his focus ahead. he waited to get her attention "Stay on me, we're moving to the front" he dug his heel into the side of the horse "The bullshit is thick in the air today"

He kept an even trot through the ranks, glancing at a few of the soldiers faces, some wore stoic looks with eyes straight forward, mouths in hard lines and seeming un-moved. They only seemed to stiffen as he rode by. There was of course another kind of soldier, the ones who were the exact opposite then the quiet. They sobbed openly instead of trying to hide it, those who chose this method of grief seemed to attract each other for comfort. Levi watched for a moment before digging his heel into his horse again to quicken their pace to the front of the line.  The corporal slowed as they got closer, his eyes scanned the wagons for a specific one before slowly his horse to walk aside hers. "Once Irvin reports in hes likely going to want to talk to you, you're going to get your arm looked at first." he spoke sternly, only looking at her for a moment "They no doubt have a medic spot set up for Eren,  we'll take you there" he faced forward again with a slight grunt.

Keeping her eyes ahead on the gate as they went in through it, she caught the movement of Levi turning to look at her, the woman returning the look and nod. Her gaze went forward again as they passed under the gate, the Corps going slower for they could all crowd in. The more she thought about the shitstorm, as Levi called in, laying on the other side of the gates, it only reminded her of what she had to face, besides angry civilians. And Petra wasn't sure if she could face anyone else.

She squinted slightly when they were in the sunlight again, stealing glances at the civilians as the Survey Corps walked by them. Almost every single one of them had something to say to the soldiers, most all of it derogatory and each and every single comment hitting her harder and harder each time. She almost froze up when a civilian had called them out on how many more had to die. Looking around the ranks of the Survey Corps and the civilians, the woman's gaze stopped on barely familiar faces, few she saw maybe one or twice after Squad Levi was formed: Auruo's brothers. She almost halted entirely before she heard her name, her head snapping forward to look at Levi. She nodded to what he had to say, nudging the side of her horse again to move it into a faster pace.

She followed close behind Levi, looking down at several of the soldiers in the ranks. She recognized some of the new faces to the Legion, more specifically the ones from the 104th Trainee Squad. Despite how young they all were, the past day had taken its toll on them, most of their eyes blank and staring. Of course, she heard broken sobs within the ranks also, from the soldiers that couldn't keep in their grief. She bit her lip as she turned her gaze forward again, although it shifted back to Levi when she was addressed again. He only confirmed her suspicions about having to talk to Irvin face-to-face about the mission, an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. For the second time that day, she felt sick, pressing her injured arm to her stomach. "At...least be there when I have to talk to Irvin. That's all I ask." Her last words faded into a whisper as she looked forward again.

Levi allowed his head to sway slightly with his horse as they moved at a slower pace, his eyes scanned ahead of them, watching as the wagons of injured turned up ahead. More then likely that's where the medical checkpoint was. Gripping the reins he planned out how the rest of the day would go. Irvin, he was sure would come find him later, the commander wouldn't let the day end without an account from the only survivor of squad Levi to witness the attack. Petra needed attention medically, as well as mentally, that much was obvious. Something the corporal was sure he wouldn't let Irvin forget in his questioning. His mouth formed a hard line, at some point he had to sign off on the death certificates of the rest of his squad. He stared ahead, once again falling into a trance like state as he started to get lost in his own thoughts.

Petra's voice brought him back as he blinked, giving a sideways glance to prove he was listening. It took him a moment to register what she sad before he stopped his horse all together "You didn't have to ask" he looked at her, his facial expression seemingly blank "I told you, I'm with you." a part of him still wondered what she thought of him now. She had a right to expect he wouldn't be around. He wasn't there for her or any of his squad when they needed him most. He didn't visibly show these thoughts he only stared at her plainly. Soldiers moved around them as they both had stopped in the middle of the progression, his horse saddled next to  hers and eyes locked with that seemingly lame focus "do you blame me for it?" it was a blunt question, one he watched Petra's face with an intensity. He didn't have to add context. Levi simply just had to know.

"Petra!" a voice broke in the crowd of people watching the survey corps return, Levi's gaze broke from hers to glance out to see a man coming their way waving a piece of paper. Levi glanced at her once before staring ahead, his jaw clenched tighter then before. "Petra! I was beginning to worry" The man walked up to the horse smiling, waving his hand all the while "I was originally looking for the Corporal but I shouldn't be surprised to see you with him!" he chuckled, though it faded when he noticed her arm. "you're hurt" concern now fell over his face as he looked up at his daughter. "You need to get that looked at" he frowned, before holding up a white envelope "I read all your letters, only hearing about the Corporal is one thing, but I wanted to meet him! Where are those other men you mentioned, they weren't injured were they?" The man  looked at the other soldiers expectantly before back at Petra. Levi went un-moving, as he only focused on what was ahead his jaw never once relaxing.

She almost kept going until she noticed that Levi had stopped altogether, likely from what she had said to him. Pulling her reins back to stop her horse, Petra watched Levi carefully as he answered her question. Glancing away for a second before looking back, she gave a small nod in response. Was she beginning to doubt him now, of all times? Petra fiddled with the reins on her horse, looking down at the saddle when Levi asked his new question. No, she wasn't doubting him, she could never doubt him. The only one she was doubting now was herself. "N...no, I don't blame you." Gripping the reins of her horse tighter, she closed her eyes and felt a single tear hit her hand. "I blame myself." She whispered, her words barely audible in the commotion of the soldiers moving forward and the civilian's relentless words.

Her head snapped up when she heard a familiar voice call her name, biting her lip when she realized it was her father coming towards them. Still, she wasn't ready to face anyone. But it was a small relief she was half-willing to accept at the moment, despite the fact she just wanted to sit down and forget about the events of the day. Turning her horse to face her father, she faked a smile. "You don't need to worry, father. I'm fine, besides whatever injuries I have." Glancing over at Levi, her attention was brought to her arm when her dad pointed it out. Petra brought her uninjured hand up to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "We were on our way to a medical checkpoint to get this looked at." She tensed up when her father asked about the rest of her squad, returning her hand to the reins of her horse. "...No, they weren't injured." Petra stated quietly, looking forward again.

He almost had missed it, if he would have blinked a second later or if someone in the crowd had yelled a little louder. It only made him stare ahead harder, she blamed herself. When he was the captain of the squad, when he was the one who was delayed, yet Petra blamed herself. He hardly focused on her father now, the grip on his reins getting pulled tighter to the point where his horse shook its head in protest. he felt her look at him for a moment though he didn't return it, he only focused ahead.

Her father was quick to smile again, clearly happy to see his daughter "Good to hear! I look forward to meeting them" he waved the envelope again, as if to wave the two of them off "Don't let me hold you two up, I want that arm of yours checked out, and come visit me when you get the chance Petra. You don't want to worry your father more then you already do" with another wave of the envelope he gave a final smile at his daughter. Levi tugged on the reins, causing his horse to slowly begin to move forward and follow the way the injured were being carried. He glanced back only to be sure Petra was still in tow. He didn't speak to her on the way there, only occasionally looking at soldiers that addressed him formally upon their arrival. It wasn't much of a check point, wooden poles erected with a tarp draped over, there were soldiers speckled about with their arms in slings, some with bandages placed differently on each face. Levi came to a halt, dismounting his horse, not without a slight grunt, he had forgotten the dull pain of his ankle which had been drowned out by his thoughts. Glancing to Petra for the second time he waited for one of the medics to come out, it didn't take long surprisingly with the amount of soldiers and they were bustled into the tent.

And then they were alone.

The medic had left to go get supplies, and as loud as the medical checkpoint was between screaming and the occasional sob it was a loud silence. "You blame yourself." he started, he slowly looked over to her "What kind of shit is that." his jaw tightened as he found himself watching her facial expressions, this time not averting his gaze "you did your duty, you fought and you survived. The mission was a failure and we had casualties but Eren is still alive." his attention went to a medic that walked just outside their tent before he returned his gaze "you can't blame yourself for the mistakes of your comrades, for how they fought or how the enemy fought. If every soldier did that everyone would be sitting on their asses." his stare was cold for the time being as he continued to watch her "If you need something to blame.." he paused, his eyes now locking with hers, he moved towards her, his hand ghosting over hers quick enough to be missed but slow enough to matter "blame your captain"

Wincing at her father's wish to meet her squad, she gave a curt nod as she looked back down at her father. "I'll be home as soon as I can be, I promise." The woman watched as her father went on his way, a small sigh escaping her lips. Clicking her tongue and tugging on her horse's reins, the horse started at a slow walk to follow after Levi. The way to the medical checkpoint was quiet between them, no words exchanged as they went. It only left Petra to her own thoughts, something she didn't want to be alone with at the moment. Her mind kept replaying Auruo's death over and over again... all of their deaths, in fact. Petra looked back up as her captain came to a halt, realizing they were finally at the medical checkpoint. Pulling back on her own horse's reins to bring it to the stop, she turned to slowly slide off of the animal.

Following Levi a short distance, she sat down on an empty cot as the medic went off to get supplies to treat her. Looking back up at Levi, she winced slightly at his words, though she continued to look at him. Despite whatever he said, she could still only blame herself as the survivor of that futile attack against the Female Titan. Her hand balled into a fist as Levi's hand ghosted over it, shaking her head and looking down to break eye contact as yet more tears stung in her eyes. Bringing a hand up to wipe her eyes, Petra looked back up at Levi. "I can't blame someone who wasn't there. We...I can only blame myself. I could have saved one other." She could feel a lone tear trail down her cheek, moving her hand back up to wipe it away. "I could have saved Auruo if I reacted fast enough. But I didn't." She looked back down to the ground, a shaky sigh escaping her lips. "We didn't accomplish anything. Eren may still be alive, but we accomplished nothing."

Levi watched his last squad member, his face remained expressionless as he watched her, as the first then second tear before turning away returning to the spot he was originally in. He let her finish neither giving any sign he was for or against what she was saying. The silence was quick to come back as he stood there, staring at nothing in particular. "That's exactly why you can blame me." he said finally after letting his words hang there for a moment. "I wasn't there. Did you ever considered the outcome if I had been?" glancing back at her he stared, his jaw tightening yet again from the fact of the matter. He didn't know his exact goal in talking about it, to turn her against him? That was a possibility, as far as he was concerned he deserved it.

Levi looked at her for a moment before walking to the opening in the tarp, nodding for her to look out. "Look at them Petra." Levi motioned to the soldiers scattered around the sight, some were laying on the ground holding a specific part of their body in pain. Some  in a tight embrace with other soldiers they barely even knew. Medics bustled about trying to help each other with supplies. "Every single soldier today. is blaming themselves for the same thing" he looked out into the crowded street turn checkpoint with a hard look "You're blaming yourself for being alive. That's humanities damn burden, is being alive." the tarp like door feel shut again as Levi stepped back into the room, watching Petra again she looked so innocent, sitting there, she always looked so out of place to him and even more so now. He said nothing as he walked across the room before sitting next to her with a soft puff from the cot. "Erd. Gunther. Auruo. if it was one of them in your place, Petra, would you want them to feel this way? Did they want you to feel this way." He crossed his arms,  staring forward before closing his eyes. He never considered himself good with words nor was he very good at being a comforting man, but it was all he had.

Petra's head picked back up when Levi broke the momentary silence between them, staring forward at nothing in particular. She gave up lifting her hand every so often to wipe away her tears that just seemed to keep flowing, allowing them to drip off of her chin and onto the cot and her pants. Unclenching her hand, she turned her head to look out of the small tent as Levi walked over to the exit, blinking slowly as she watched soldiers and medics bustle by, barely listening to whatever it was Levi had to say. After her captain had let the tarp fall again, she looked back to the opposite side of the small makeshift room. Now she just felt weak, her breath hitching slightly when Levi had sat next to her. Any training to control her emotions was blown to hell today, a small sob wracking her body as Levi said each name of their squad.

Removing her crudely-made sling, she rested her injured arm in her lap as she wiped her eyes. "I can't c-consider something after they're already dead, Levi. That's just... considering the outcome if you had been there is a false paradise now." Petra rested her uninjured elbow on her knee, putting her forehead on her hand and closing her eyes. "D-Don't try and shift the blame to yourself. It..." Another sob shook her body, the woman pushing the hair out of her face as she lifted her head back up. She winced slightly when her hair pulled at the small gash on her head. "I-It was all of our faults. We all made a m-mistake on the field and we all paid the price." She wiped her eyes again, glancing at Levi. "N-None of them would want us blaming ourselves... yet h-here we are." Her voice was back to that small whisper she had seemed to take on more and more after she had returned, a dry and humorless laugh escaping her lips as she returned her gaze to the floor, allowing her copper hair to shield her face.

Levi didn't move much after he sat, he kept his arms tight across his chest and his eyes shut. Listening to Petra between her sobs, Levi slowly opened his eyes, glancing to the makeshift table at the side of the cot, plucking a cloth roll off of it. Being as he was, he examined the roll for dirt or otherwise undesirable filth before ripping a decent sized piece off. There was a pause, his eyebrows crossing more in the slightest before he offered the piece to Petra in a quick motion. "Look around us Petra" he glanced to her, though her hair obscured any actual view of her face. He re-evaluated his earlier statement, for the first time as he watched Petra there wasn't any innocence, she lost that today. "Humanity lives in a false paradise. Living behind huge-ass walls" there was another silence as he waited for her to take the cloth bit before returning his arms back across his chest. What else could he say, the fact that he wasn't there resided with him and he had no way of knowing what she had really been through. They were at an impasse.

He waited for a moment, listening to her occasional sobs before he grunted, giving a sideways glance "I'm still with you." He muttered, he wasn't sure if he was saying it for her or himself, maybe both of them at this point. The medic bustled back in with the necessary supplies. Levi got up, placing a momentary hand on Petra's shoulder before walking a little more then halfway across the small tent, giving the medic room to work. He watched for a moment before a second person entered the tent.

Levi tensed upon who entered, watching the man intently as he walked to the center of the small tent completely focused on Petra. The survey corps commander looked as if he had run the way here as he adjusts his uniform. Irvin didn't notice Levi as he finished adjusting himself to walk forward, dismissing the medic in the process. "Irvin." Said commander blinked, looking over towards Levi with mild surprise, he looked between Petra and the corporal before walking to him "that's The survivor from your squad? She's the only one I don't have a report from, about the incident" he looked back at her with interest. "Her name is Petra Ral and she's unfit to give a report right now" Levi crossed his arms again, looking up towards Irvin with his unchanging stare who glanced back with a skeptical look "I need a report of the mission while its still fresh in her mind. It's protocol." There was silence, the two men stared at each other for a moment before Levi spoke first "as her captain I have the right to protect those who follow my order, commander, that includes keeping them from being badgered with your useless ass questions." Irvin's eyebrows furrowed, seeming to straighten himself up for height, something Levi resented. "Even your reach only goes so far, Corporal, I need something from her for my own report" he watched Levi for a moment as the shorter man clench his jaw at his words "don't start making exceptions because of your..attachments" there wasn't much to the sentence, and it was spoke so low even Levi almost missed it but it caused him to silently grit his teeth as his arms drew tighter into his chest. Irvin turned then, facing Petra with an indifferent look, taking a silent notice of her arm. "I'll save you from going into detail for now, that goes into your written report, but I need something verbal from you for the time being, a brief summery of the events. can you do that?" He asked, watching Petra expectantly. Levi only stayed in his spot locked up tight as he silently fumed, his eyes were straight forward for a moment before he looked towards Petra.

Shifting slightly on the cot, Petra slowly picking her head back up as Levi started talking again, reaching to tuck strands of her hair behind her ear. She only looked forward, an occasional sob making its way to the surface. Glancing over at her captain when he held out a small piece of cloth, carefully taking it from him to use to wipe her eyes. It was definitely a change from the somewhat rough texture of her jacket, nodding slowly in thanks. Moving her hand to unhook her cloak, she pulled it to rest on her lap, folding her hands on it to the best of her ability.

Looking back down to the ground, she tried to take a breath to calm herself down, although it was a futile attempt at this point, another sob instead shaking her body. She glanced up slightly at what Levi had said this time, nodding again in confirmation. "I...I know you are." Petra said quietly, bringing the cloth up again to wipe the corner of her eyes. She looked up as she felt the weight next to her leave, glancing at Levi's hand as he placed it on her shoulder for a few short seconds. Turning her attention to the small entrance to the tent, she noticed the medic had returned with supplies. She sucked in a breath, slowly exhaling to try and relax herself as the medic came over to examine her injuries, most notably her arm. Hopefully there was a way to dull the pain for the time being, something she needed at the moment.

She looked up from the medic when someone else entered the tent, the doctor suddenly shooed away from her. Glancing at Levi, she noticed their commander as his name was said. Petra suddenly felt sick again, clutching the small cloth she still held harder. The woman didn't expect him to come and find them, more specifically her, until later... or at the very least, wait until her injuries were actually tended to. The soldier turned her head to focus on nothing in particular, listening to their exchange intently. She looked forward again when Irvin said something barely intelligeble to her ears, but whatever it was, it effectively kept Levi quiet. Narrowing her eyes slightly, her breath caught in her throat when Irvin turned his attention to her. She felt a second pair of eyes on her, not bothering to look to see who it was.

Letting out a shaky sigh, she lightly played with the cloth she still had in her hand. "Gunther was the first to be killed, by...whoever the Female Titan was. We were all caught by surprise, but..." Petra's gaze turned to the ground again. "We sent Eren ahead to keep him safe after the Titan took her form again, and tried to lead an a-attack. We managed to blind her, but she somehow focused on regenerating one eye. Before Erd could cut her neck, she...bit him in half." She reached up to wipe her eyes again, more tears falling as she recalled the attack in vivid detail. "I...I was almost next. I panicked until Auruo brought me out of it and I was able to react fast enough to release the Maneuver Gear before the Titan could crush me against a tree. Auruo was killed right after... I'm sure he was too focused on me to notice." She brought her arms to rest on her knees, holding her head in her hands and trying her best to ignore the pain in her left arm, a harsh sob wracking her body once again. "I-Is that all, c-commander?" Petra managed between sobs, balling her hands into fists in her hair.

Levi watched Petra's reaction as she got half way through her description before finding something else  to look at in the small tent. Her words filled his head as his makeshift reasons on how each of his squad had been killed, even the order they had been killed. Levi closed his eyes again, putting himself back in the forest for a moment just before he had came across the bodies. He watched them die one by one. Gunther. Erd. Auruo. falling to the spot he had found their bodies in.  The scenes played over in his head now he studied them as if it was happening right in front of him when a loud sob caused his eyes to snap open. It was clear the report took its toll on Petra causing him to take a step forward with ridged movement "Irvin, that's enough" the commander looked over to Levi as he spoke before looking back to Petra. "That's all. It will have to do for now" he turned making way to exit the tent all together. "The mission was still a failure considering our goal wasn't reached. Use that to fuel yourselves for the next attempt" with that the survey corps commander left the tent without another glance back and as quick as he arrived.

"what an asshole." Levi grunted, turning his attention back towards Petra with a hard look. he glanced to the Medic, quickly motioning towards Petra before finding a place to sit opposite, settling before crossing one leg over the other as well as his arms. He thought in the silence as the medic worked, glancing to Petra when he heard the occasional sob before returning his gaze forward. "You're done with talking about it for today." he said suddenly, not moving much at all in his new spot, only sitting quietly "Once we're done here, I'll take you back to headquarters." he was going to mention she needed the rest but he doubted she would get it. Not under these conditions so he left it at that, offering her a final look before staring straight ahead.

Petra tried her best to ignore Irvin's parting words; they added insult to injury if anything. He spoke of another attempt, but what made him think the Survey Corps would have enough morale to go on to do yet another expedition outside of the walls, especially after the failure of the day. She slowly brought her hands out of her hair, sitting up straighter as Levi brought the medic back over to treat her. Carefully she removed her jacket to make it easier for the medic to assess her arm, sobs still shaking her body every so often, the soldier still regularly wiping her eyes with the cloth Levi had given her.

She glanced slowly at said man, just giving a slow nod in agreement to what he said about returning to the HQ. "U-Understood." Muttering her words, Petra winced slightly when the medic rolled up the sleeve to her shirt, carefully wrapping her arm in bandages. Petra considered the possibility of sleeping when she returned with Levi, but the more her squadmates haunted her mind, the more tears she felt falling and the less sleep she could see herself getting. Glancing up when the medic handed her over a sling, she nodded in thanks and put her arm through, putting the strap around her neck and adjusting it so it felt... mostly comfortable.

The soldier flinched slightly when the medic went to tending the wound on her head, disinfecting the cut and cleaning off whatever dried blood had been left. The medic wrapped a bandage around her head several times, securing the bandage so it wouldn't come loose. Petra continued to look forward, even as the medic bustled out to go bend to other soldiers in need of medical attention. Slowly she began to move, standing slowly despite how much she realized her muscles ached, picking up her jacket to slip her arm into the right sleeve, pulling the other side up so it rested on her shoulder. She held her cloak in her right arm, wiping her eyes again. Her sobs have ebbed, for the most part, her breath only hitching every so often.  Looking over at Levi, she gave a small nod.

Levi watched the medic work off and on, his gaze focusing on various things around the small tent before always ending up watching the medic work on Petra. He adjusted in his seat, it wasn't the most comfortable spot considering it was just a box, and with things winding down the pain in his ankle was starting to reach up his leg as a constant reminder. Without much movement he watched Petra get up, he looked her over carefully, first her head which was now tightly bandaged and then her arm sling. As quick as the medic was she looked well taken care of for the most part. He stood then, returning both feet firmly to the ground with the nod from Petra, his ankle was going to have to wait until they did get back to headquarters he already was more then tired of this tent.

Glancing back at her before he walked out of the tent he took notice of how the long day was starting to come to an end. The Medical checkpoint was being torn down the tarps and wooden poles being put back on wagons for later use as well as the injured that couldn't walk for themselves or move at all. Walking over to their horses he gave his a hearty pat on the shoulder before lifting himself up without much effort. He sat on his horse until she got onto hers, though he still didn't move, only keeping his eyes forward for a moment "I didn't think he'd get his tight ass in such a bunch to want to talk to you so soon." he dug his heel into the side of his horse, causing it to lurch forward. With a quick tug he turned the animal around to head back up the street. He didn't know if she realized it was his best attempt at an apology, but he didn't stop to look.

The headquarters was out of the way from the cluster of buildings behind the wall, he always assumed that's how the survey corps preferred it, Levi didn't mind considering it kept them out of the way from the constant badgering of public about their most recent mission. With the headquarters in sight he glanced over to Petra with his unmoved gaze, he tried to think of something to say anything to say but nothing came to mind. He never saw the value of words such as "It'll be alright" or "Don't cry" that was simply denying someone to do something in their grief.

They came up to the large building, Levi took a slow turn into the stables that had once been full of horses now only contained one or two already. One more then likely being a spare in case something happened to one of the others. He didn't hesitate getting off his horse, his ankle once again flaring up upon the contact with the ground which he once again ignored. Waiting for Petra to do the same before he made his way towards one of the stable doors that lead into the main building. Levi could hear the wind and it was something he hated, it just proved how empty the place was that it was quiet enough to hear the smallest puff of air. Opening the door for his squad member he let her in first before following, the room was quiet as expected, the only thing breaking the silence was the door shutting on itself. Levi paused, stopping altogether just behind her. "Petra" he waited for her to stop, watching the back of her intently. "Don't hold it in. You don't have to save face from anyone here" he stepped around to her side, giving a sideways glance.

Watching Levi momentarily, Petra slowly brought herself to move one foot in front of the other to walk, following her captain outside of the tent. She squinted slightly at the sunlight, despite the fact the sun was beginning to sink below the horizon. The woman kept her gaze forward, although she glanced over shortly when she saw the medical checkpoint being taken down already. She assumed what couldn't be done was being moved to an actual building, considering the amount of injured they had from the mission. Looking forward again, she approached the right side of her horse, putting her cloak up on top first. Grabbing the reins with her right arm and placing her foot in the stirrup, she grit her teeth somewhat as she pulled herself up onto the horse's saddle, adjusting to get comfortable. Petra picked up her cloak again, clasping it back around her neck to keep her warm from any impending chill.

She looked back at Levi when he gave his best attempt at an apology for the moment. Blinking slowly, she nudged the sides of her horse and turned it around, the animal moving at a walk as they headed back to the HQ. "...It's over, don't worry about it." She said quietly, looking down to focus on the back of her horse's neck. Having giving Irvin a small summary of the mission left her more drained than she already was, the woman less responsive to her surroundings. The only thing that kept her aware was the dull thud of the horse's hooves on the hard ground and the occasional squeak of a saddle.

Petra picked her head back up when the soft orange glow of the sunset faded in favor of the shadow of the large building that was the HQ for the Survey Corps. Or rather, the HQ for Squad Levi. She kept her eyes on the castle-like structure for a moment, quickly looking forward to turn her horse to the stables. The soldier tried to ignore how empty the stables were, save for two other horses. Pulling back on the reins of her horse, the animal stomped its hooves slightly in protest from Petra's sudden pull, the woman sliding off of her horse. She kept a hold on the reins, hitching the horse for someone to surely come by later and actually tend to the animals.

Slowly she followed Levi to the main building, her eyes focused on the Survey Corps emblem on his cloak before she looked off to the side. Petra only looked forward again when she heard the door open, Levi holding it open for her to walk in first. The silence in the building was...off-putting, almost suffocating. It felt too out of place to her, so used to the sometimes loud joking around with her late squad and their conversations they had. The only other sound that filled the room was the sound of the door clicking shut, the woman continuing forward until Levi said her name. She stopped in her tracks, keeping her hazel eyes trained on the wood flooring.

At Levi's next few words, she covered her mouth and hunched forward slightly, tears beginning to sting in her eyes again. A muffled sob escaped her mouth, the woman's legs seeming to give out under her as she slid to the floor, legs folded on either side of her. She leaned forward, tears continuously flowing from her eyes as more muffled sobs shook her small frame.

He stood with a stone like rigidness as he watched her, it was only seconds after he spoke she was on the floor, her sobs filled the silent room up each sob was swallowed by the emptiness even still. He watched her body ripple with each shake and each tremble and he felt it as if it were his own. But Levi said nothing as he walked past her, his hand going through the motions of unclasping the button that held his cloak around him before it neatly fell off. Tugging it around to the front he hung it on one of the five hooks before pausing. Three of which were going to be permanently empty, it was just hooks, somewhere to hang a jacket or in this case his field cloak but the idea of the row not being filled cause the man to place his free hand on the wall for momentary support.

He froze there, eyes staring at nothing but the wall ahead, he could only imagine what the two of them must look like both with their own sense of mourning, based on the horse in the stable, there had to be one other person here besides themselves, though the thought still had no comfort to it. Only fact. Levi pushed lightly off the wall, Petra's continuous sobs brought his attention back to her again watching her with a mild intensity. He made his way a short distance across the room back to her, standing in front of her for a brief moment before taking to his knee. The action wasn't without consequence as his ankle set another biting reminder of its condition that Levi yet again ignored. He watched her now from his knelt position, her hair was obscuring her face again but the pain only had to be heard rather then seen.

Levi didn't hesitate, placing a hand slowly on the side of her face. It was then he could confirm her whole body was trembling from the sobs. He paused for only a brief moment before his hand moved to the back of her head, pulling his squad member against him. His other hand lay flat on her back, and even then she still shook. "I'm with you." he muttered, though he wasn't sure if it was lost between her sobs or the muffling of her hair, either way it was said not knowing if it would mean anything to her at all. After all, he wasn't a very comforting man.

The silence was only broken by her sobs, thoughts racing through the woman's head, each one hitting harder than the previous one. She could have done more so much more than she did out on the field, and despite whatever Levi had said to her, she would blame herself. While it was only one other person, she could have saved Auruo. Maybe then it wouldn't be so quiet in the HQ... maybe there would still be slightly more life than there currently was. Petra removed her hand from her mouth, attempting to drag in a ragged breath. Her hand clenched into a fist as another broken sob escaped her, barely noticing as Levi kneeled down in front of her, but looked up slightly when he put a hand on her cheek. More tears seemed to fall at this action, the woman slowly lifting her left arm to put her hand over his gently.

Her hand slid back down when Levi pulled her to him, the soldier putting her forehead on the man's shoulder to hide her face, closing her eyes as she openly cried into his shoulder. Slowly she shifted her arms to wrap around Levi's back, gripping onto his jacket slightly. Petra gave a small nod as she barely caught what he said to her. It might not have been enough to the average person, but it was enough to hear that he was with her.

Another sob shook her body, pulling herself a just a little closer. "D-Did I f-fail them?" She muttered in a shaky voice, not entirely sure if it was audible to Levi, considering where her head was. "D-Did I-" A harsh sob escaped her halfway through her question, tightening her grip on Levi's jacket as she only further stained it with her tears. "...fail y-you?"

Levi said nothing as she shook and sobbed, his hand on her back taking curt but rhythmic circular motions. His eyes watched the rise and fall of her back, allowing her to cling tighter, in fact he welcomed it as he found himself naturally leaning into the embrace without much hesitation from the light tugs. The room still felt silent to him, despite the sobs that hung almost as heavy as the original uneasy quiet from when they first arrived. Upon another shake from Petra, the hand that was placed on the back of her head gently took to stroking her hair, the gentleness of the action was slightly foreign to Levi though it wasn't done without care.

He had closed his eyes for a moment, getting caught up with his own thoughts when she had said something, he had to turn his head slightly. with eyes opening again with a new hardness he gripped the back of her cloak. "The mission was a failure Petra, not your actions" he leaned back to look at her face, releasing the grip on her cloak to move hair away from her eyes as he stared "you and the rest of the squad followed my orders despite how shit the planning turned out to be." he grunted, keeping eye contact with her, glancing down only for a moment when one of her stray tears hit his hand which in return briefly brushed another from her face . "the enemy was underestimated. They all including yourself acted as any soldier would." Levi's jaw instantly clenched when she asked if she had failed him, he said nothing as he looked to focus on something just behind her. "No." his answer was blunt and to the point as his eyes found their way back to hers with a distant and hard look "I failed you and I failed them.". Levi watched her then, he watched her face and her body language just as he had all day but there was the slightest hint of defeat in his eyes. He then reached for her now, it was painfully slow when he pulled her back against him, his grip tighter then before. "I should have been there." his reactions ran on impulse as he held her tighter, he had gone through life loss before, it was a common thing in the war they fought. He dealt with it his own way, mourning silently and on his own time rather then openly with others. But he held onto Petra, he was doing something he shouldn't do and for a moment depended on her, letting her see his armor had just as many cracks as hers. What he should do is leave her be, to get up and offer to take her to her room, go to his own and be done with the day. But he didn't. Levi stayed.

Petra opened her eyes when she felt Levi lean away from her, looking up at him as he moved the hair out of her eyes. She brought her right arm back to her, covering her mouth again with the back of her hand in another vain attempt to muffle her sobs. She shook her head slowly, her breath hitching slightly as another sob shook her body. The woman dropped her hand to let it rest in her lap, glancing away from Levi for a second as he brushed a tear from her face. She kept her gaze trained on something else in the room, sniffling slightly as another sob hit her, looking back up at Levi as he answered her second question.

She barely caught the slight hint of defeat in his eyes as she was pulled back against him, moving her arm back around his back and putting her forehead back on his shoulder. Sucking in a ragged breath, the woman gripped his jacket with her right hand again as another wave of harsh sobs hit her, leaning closer to Levi. "Y-You didn't fail u-us, Levi. I-it... the mission was a failure." Her shoulders shook as she spoke through her sobs. "P-Please don't blame yourself for the c-commander's poor planning." Petra muttered, her grip again tightening on Levi's jacket as she shook her head again. "Please..."

Moving his weight more on his other leg, his ankle was at a constant throb that throughout the day was a constant reminder for Levi what had been sacrificed and that nothing had been gained, only losses. With a small shift on his part he found himself falling into holding onto his squad member as if she was one of his blade, something his life depended on in the moment. He let out a noticeable sigh at her plea, his hard eyes softening slightly. Of course she wasn't going to blame him but a captain is responsible for the action and lives of his men. Levi failed at both.

He merely grunted, letting his hand naturally take to the circular motions again on her back as he felt another sob. He didn't wish to cause her more grief with his own, she had enough of that already. "I told you, you didn't have to talk about it. But look at us" he muttered against her hair with a dry tone as he waited between her sobs to speak. "you need energy and rest, its been a long ass day" though his words talked of moving, he didn't, he still held onto her with a firm tightness. He'd move when she was ready. No doubt she would also need a fresh change of bandages for her head, something he noted to check once they did part.

Petra closed her eyes, moving with Levi as he shifted slightly, letting go of his jacket entirely to just keep her hands against his back. A small, shaky sigh escaped her as Levi slowly began to rub her back, trying to calm herself down, although instead another sob shook her body. Barely hearing Levi as he spoke, she turned her head to the side to open her eyes again. She glanced down at the floor, shifting again if only to make herself more comfortable as opposed to actually moving. "O-Only if you get the same." She muttered, her breath hitching and a weaker sob coming from her.

The large building was quiet, almost too quiet. Hanji had returned shortly after the expedition, retreating almost as soon as they had returned into the walls, mostly because she had no injuries to deal with and she didn't wish to face the civilians. Who would want to, though? With their slanderous words, it was best to get up and out of the way as soon as possible. And she had mission reports to finish, unfortunately. The squad leader had her jacket off as she signed off the end of another report, stretching her arms above her head before bringing her elbows back on the table for her hands to hold her head. It had been a long day for the entire Corps, and it was likely it was going to take a lot of recovery for another expedition.

The woman looked up slightly when she heard a faint sob echo throughout the castle-like structure. Standing up slowly, she listened closely to more of the muffled sobs that seemed to come from the ground floor. Hanji sighed slightly, leaving her room to see who else could have returned to the castle at this time. Naturally, Levi... but who else? As far as she knew, since she had departed from the Legion as soon as she could, his squad had been brutally murdered at the hands of the Female Titan. And those sobs definitely did not belong to a grown man... unless, for some odd reason, Levi had the capacity to sob in such a way.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Hanji was barely able to see who was near the entrance to the HQ, making it out to be Levi and...Petra. She squinted slightly, having assumed all of Levi's squad were wiped out by the Female Titan. Petra had to be the only other survivor from his squad, though. The squad leader kept quiet, pinching the bridge of her nose slightly in thought. She remembered, mostly from off-handed comments from Irvin and occasionally seeing them sneaking around, that they were... some form of together. Sighing again, she walked forward slowly and cleared her throat. "Levi..."
